Lubbock in the Spring

Hi! I am Sarah, the Manager of Faculty Recruitment, at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. I was born and raised in Lubbock, so have experienced spring time in Lubbock for many years.

Most days average about 75 degrees with a light breeze and plenty of sunshine. Of course, there are the bad weather days mixed in with rain and wind, but Lubbock is mostly mild.

Springtime, especially around campus, is beautiful. The TTUHSC facilities team does a great job of planting colorful flowers and keeping the grass green (check out the photos attached, all at TTUHSC). Lubbock also comes alive with spring events. Here are some of my favorite spring activities.

1. Find a Patio

Lubbock is home to many restaurants with live music, good food/drink, and dog-friendly patios. Check out World of Beer, Twisted Spigot, Ruby Tequilas, Albarran’s, Las Brisas, and Teddy Jacks.

2. Play at the Park Grab a picnic basket and head to the park. Lubbock is home to over 75 parks; some with basketball, volleyball, tennis, and/or walking tracks. Google Lubbock Parks for full listing.

3. Catch a Baseball Game

Texas Tech boasts one of the highest ranked baseball programs in the NCAA. It is a great activity for the whole family. Head out to Dan Law Field to catch some Big 12 action. Grab a hot dog while you are at it.

4. First Friday Art Trail Do you enjoy Art? Music? Wine? Coffee? Food Trucks? The Art Trail is the first Friday of each month and is a perfect spring activity. It is a free event, so hop on the trolley and enjoy the Lubbock art scene.

5. Wine Tour

Would you believe the Lubbock area is home to 5 wineries? 80% of the wine grapes in Texas are grown right here in West Texas. Each winery has its own character. These wineries are all within 30 minutes of Lubbock: McPherson Cellars, Caprock Winery, Llano Estacado Winery, Pheasant Ridge, and Trilogy Cellars.
